INDIANAPOLIS - Players from all over the country traveled to Indianapolis to participate in this week's NIKE Girl's All-America Basketball Camp. But Sharika Webb didn't have to travel far.

The Indianapolis Cathedral High School standout is one of 80 participants at the sixth annual event, which runs through Wednesday on the campus of IUPUI.

Webb, a 5-foot-7 point guard, also may not have to travel far to attend college. She has been leaning heavily toward Purdue for some time and may finalize things this weekend during an unofficial visit to the West Lafayette campus.

"They are No. 1," Webb said of where the Boilermakers rank among her college choices. "I'm going up there on Sunday. I'm ready to make my decision, but my mom wants me to weigh out my options some more."

Webb is extremely fond of third-year Purdue coach Kristy Curry, who was at NIKE Camp along with assistant Kerry Cremeans. Assistant Pam Stackhouse is watching the addidas camp in Pittsburgh, where Curry will join her later this week.

"I love Kristy," Webb said. "She's got a great personality and she cares about her players a lot. She's a great coach and she's done a great job at Purdue. Hopefully I can get her back to the Final Four in 2005 when it's held here in Indianapolis."

While Webb referred to Curry as her future coach, the present involves playing with some of the nation's top talent this week. Webb, an Indiana junior all-star, is rated the 27th-best player in the nation by All-Star Girls Report. Even still, she considered it an honor to be invited to the prestigious camp in her hometown.

"It's a great honor to be here with the top 80 players in the country," said Webb, who wants to improve her defense this summer. "It's a great experience for me. It shows me how much I've grown as a player to be invited here.

"I've had a lot of fun so far this summer. I've been very busy and have been home for only four days so far this month. It's been very busy, but it's been a lot of fun, too."

Webb averaged 15.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists as a junior at Cathedral. She spent much of her free time in Mackey Arena this past winter at Purdue games, and was able to attend one game with her entire Fighting Irish team, which went 27-1 and won the Class 3A state title.

"I went to about four Purdue games and it was a great experience," said Webb, who wants to study computer technology in college. "One time I took my entire high school team and we got to sit behind the bench. It was a great opportunity to see the team up close."
