ShaliciaHurnsMugSophomore forward Shalicia Hurns has been suspended indefinitely from the women's basketball team, Coach Kristy Curry announced Tuesday.

The punishment was levied against Hurns a few days after the 19-year-old was cited early Saturday morning for illegal consumption of alcohol and entering a bar as a minor. West Lafayette police spotted Hurns entering the Boiler Room bar on Chauncey Hill.

As part of the suspension, Hurns has been withdrawn from the Big Ten Women's Foreign Tour Team, which is scheduled to compete in France and Switzerland in August.

"Shalicia has to take some time to get a number of issues in order, and we will try to help her do that," Curry said in a released statement. "She has to decide whether or not she can make the continued commitment to be a part of this program."

Curry has declined further comment.

Hurns, a 6-foot-3 forward from Indianapolis, Ind., averaged 9.3 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds for the 2001 Big Ten champion and NCAA runner-up Boilermakers.

The 6-foot-3 Hurns was one of the top freshmen in the country a year ago, starting 21 games for Purdue and averaging 9.3 points and a team-high 6.6 for the Big Ten Champion and NCAA Runner-Up Boilermakers. She was named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team.
